DC Rollergirls, Season 3, Bout 2 11/29/2008 : DCRG's third season kicked off with three teams returning as the Secretaries of Hate went into hibernation, hopefully to return rejuvenated at some point down the road. The opening match was an exhibition affair between the Cherry Blossom Bombshells and the Northside Stranglers, a regional travel team featuring skaters from Charm City Rollergirls, Dutchland Derby Rollers among others. The second match featured the DC Demoncats upsetting reigning champs, Scare Force One, who until this date had never lost a single bout since the inception of the DC league!

I was asked to shoot a team portrait in the Smithsonian's Enid A. Haupt Garden (specifically the Island Garden behind the Sackler gallery.) This was the result.

charm city roller girls (bout), may 21st 2006 : The Charm City Roller Girls is a roller derby league in Baltimore, currently featuring four teams: Speed Regime, Mobtown Mods, Night Terrors and Junkyard Dolls. I paid my first visit with a bunch of fellow photogs, and depsite the fact that I brought all my lenses but not my camera body, I managed to get a few decent shots thanks to the kindness of Eric, who filled his memory cards and lent me his 20D with one bout left in the evening's schedule, the Night Terrors vs. the Junkyard Dolls.
