James Calder > I arrived on the scene of the accident about 15 minutes after it happened. According to witnesses I spoke to, the car had been traveling south on 18th St NW, turned east onto U St but lost control. It then hit two female pedestrians and ended up going through the front window of Keren Restaurant (which was closed, according to the owner who was on site, thank goodness)
James Calder > The driver of the vehicle was in handcuffs just feet from where her car had ended up. She was periodically yelling and screaming incomprehensibly.
James Calder > The driver and her car.
James Calder > The driver had periods of calm followed by what I would guess would be classified as hysteria. Symptoms of shock I would imagine.
James Calder > The owner of Keren Restaurant holds his head while the Fire Department examines structural damage. Fortunately, the restaurant was closed at the time of the accident.
James Calder > The driver became hysterical for an extended period as she was led to a police cruiser.
James Calder > I can't imagine what she was feeling.
James Calder > The scene of where one of the victims was treated at the scene. A book bag and papers lay just a few feet away.
James Calder > The sad irony of the street sign next to the scene of the accident.
